ADHD TEACH AND REACH
WELCOME
This handbook was designed to present practical, useful methods to
teach and reach students diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder. All of these students are at great social and academic risk as
they are handicapped by their behavior, attention difficulties and
impulsivity.

We know that the educator and parents want the knowledge and
understanding which will help maximize your students' opportunities to
reach their full potential. Therefore, our intention is to provide you with
information and teaching methods effective with these students.

The strategies described in this book are based on positive teaching and
will be effective with all of your students. However, for the student with
ADHD, these modifications are necessities, not luxuries. Without
accommodations for their learning needs, students are programmed for
failure. Modifications must be implemented based on the needs of the
individual. These will vary according to the severity of the ADHD and
the presence of other learning difficulties.

We want to impress upon you that these teaching approaches are based
on ADHD characteristics manifested in the classroom and are absolutely
necessary to meet these students' specific educational needs. Whereas
other students appear to be able to adjust to the ongoing challenge and
stress of the classroom, ADHD students are much more dependent on
their teachers to help them cope with their built-in stumbling blocks.
ADHD students are capable, yet different learners. Teaching methods
effective with ADHD students are positive educational strategies and
can be just as effective with students having similar difficulties even if
they do not have a diagnosis.
